Who Are You When You’re Not Working?

Who Are You When You’re Not Working?

For some people, work becomes a big part of who they are. They’re successful, busy, capable and used to being needed. Over time, it can become difficult to separate who you are from what you do.

Then something changes.

You retire, change careers, become unwell, take time out or simply reach a point where the life you've built no longer feels quite right.

And suddenly you’re left wondering: Who am I when I’m not doing all of this?

It’s a question that can be surprisingly difficult. Our roles can give us purpose, confidence and a sense of identity, so when that role changes, it can leave us feeling a little lost.

Sometimes we think we need to work out what we're going to do next, when actually we need some time to work out what matters to us now.

Therapy can give you that space. Somewhere to step away from the expectations and responsibilities for a while and think about who you are underneath the role.

Because sometimes, stepping away from what you do gives you the chance to reconnect with who you are. Sometimes we need to go a little deeper to learn that even with it all stripped away, you are still worthy.
